Jura Consultants led a study to create a Heritage Strategy for Inverclyde. Funded as part of Inverclyde Council’s National Lottery Heritage Fund Great Places Project, the Heritage Strategy determined a vision and objectives for Inverclyde’s heritage sector, with a series of recommended and fully costed actions/ initiatives for delivery over the next ten years. Jura Consultants worked in collaboration with consultation experts Icecream Architects to deliver this study. Employing an ‘action research’ approach involving local authority representatives, stakeholders in the heritage sector and the wider community, we will build a picture of Inverclyde’s heritage assets, understanding their role and value at present and the potential for enhancement/ development moving forward. This was communicated through various asset maps and a value matrix, both of which evolved over the course of the study. As Inverclyde Council looks ahead to the re-opening of the McLean Museum and Art Gallery in 2019, understanding its role as one of the region’s key heritage assets and partnership development opportunities will be an area of focus within the strategy. The resultant Heritage Strategy is a highly visual and accessible document providing the sector at large, as well as Inverclyde Council specifically, with a framework for future development and robust platform to inform future decision making.
